Monday was Memorial Day, a day that people love to celebrate because it is the gateway to the summer and a day off of work. But I think we really fail to remember what we are supposed to remember. Moving to New England has been an amazing experience and I have gotten to visit a lot of very historical sites, buildings, and events. For those who know me very well know that I am a HUGE patriot and LOVE the history of our country.
Back in April I woke up at 4am and headed down the road with my friend Kelly to watch the reenactment of the battle of Lexington. I stood there in the dark and just as dawn was breaking forth a man on horseback came to alert the local militia that the British soldiers were in route from Boston and they got into place to meet them on the town green. As I watched the battle begin and soldiers die and then march forward to Concord, it hit me. These men were part of the reason why I was able to come back several hundred years later and watch. They are part of the reason why I can worship freely in my church each Sunday morning. They are part of the reason why I have many of the freedoms I have today. I was so humbled on that early morning and very thankful for the reminder that what I have today came at a high cost that so many were willing to pay so that people hundreds of years in the future could have the freedoms they were fighting for. I love that where I am living is a constant reminder of this and I pray that I never take this freedom for granted!
