I have spent the past few days with my almost 2.5 year old nephew. He is such a sweet little boy who is very observant and already very articulate. One thing that he consistently says is "I neeeeeeed it!" He will ask for a piece of gum or a toy or pretty much anything and if you tell him that he can't have it or wait or not right now he will respond with "I neeeeed it".
I was thinking about that tonight. How often do we do that with God? He isn't moving fast enough for us. You pray for wisdom in a situation and when you don't get an answer right away or maybe you get a flat out NO you say, "But I neeeeed it, God!" I think this is a factor in various stages of life, but I have particularly noticed it in my own life recently. Prayers that I have prayed for myself as well as others... I neeed it. Who am I to say what I need?
Several verses come to mind:
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts ~Isaiah 55:9
Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth ~ Psalm 46:10
What we need to do is stop trying to run the show and allow the Lord to lead and guide us. Look back over your shoulder and see the trail of faithfulness, the trail that constantly affirms over and over that He knows what you need, and He will lead you to the foot of the mountain to where you can worship Him, out of the valley and into His light. Oh what a mighty God we serve.
You are Wonderful by Sara Groves
i have been talking to you since i was a little girl
so many sweet memories of giving you my world
you are wonderful
a friend to the weary
you have been so faithful
your goodness it follows me
you are beautiful
your love is never ending
i was just wondering today how over all these years
you've carried so many cares
calmed so many fears
a friend to the weary
you have been so faithful
your goodness it follows me
you are beautiful
your love is never ending
