Bi-bi-bi-bi-bi-bi-bi-bi Big Apple Adventure

No I have not picked up stuttering, but have picked up some very catchy tunes. This summer's VBS theme was the Big Apple Adventure. I had the privilege of being one of the co-directors and what an amazing role it was!

Elizabeth and I planned to wear our matching shorts one of the days.

We had so much fun transforming the church into NYC. The sanctuary was Time Square complete with a labor of love, my wonderful New Year's Eve ball (where's Dick Clark when you need him?)

Battery Park was in the foyer

Complete with Lady Liberty herself

And what is New York without a hot dog stand????
Each year we pick a theme based name, this year I was Coney Island Karoline!

The missions room was Grand Central Station and the Craft area was Central Park.
It was a fun filled week with about 90 children each day ranging from newborns to middleschoolers!
Each day was a different focus Connecting with faith, trust, love, others, and life.
Here is a reflection I wrote after the first day.

Connecting with Faith

I have never been in this type of role before and when I signed up I was so excited but really didn’t know what or how God was going to use it in my life. It amazes me (okay why does it amaze me, will I ever learn this lesson) how He orchestrates the little details and the big details to speak into my life and affirm that yes this is the path I have laid out for you. Connecting with Faith, stepping out in Faith into what He has called me to do. Little did I know the lessons I would learn through co-directing VBS would be ones that are sharpening my skills, talents, gifts, patience, and faith in Christ. Learning to understand others and realizing that we as the body of Christ are all different and do play such pivotal roles, though different, each is very very important one.

As the 86 children crossed the threshold today, the magnitude of what this week truly is, hit me. We each have people who have walked beside us at moments, seasons, or years of our faith journey and today we as a team were embarking on that path with these children. Committing to walk alongside them for this week and some for even longer on their journey. I am so thankful for those who have and continue to walk beside me and help me connect with faith in what God has called and will call me to do.
