Kakira/Bekira reunion

Beth moved onto my hall first semester of freshman year. We became friends from biology class and then our friendship grew!! She unfortunately transferred the 2nd semester and I know that had she stayed we would have been thick and thin throughout college. Just in our short few months together we made so many lasting memories. Beth introduced me to Shakira and one night in her dorm room, Bekira and Kakira were created and some very incriminating photos were taken (oh to be that skinny again!!)
I visited her and her family soon after she transferred and then she came to visit sophomore year. Right before she moved, we made a friendship contract and I have thought of her for years when I would drive through Richmond or something reminded me of her or I would be cleaning my files and came across the friendship contract.

Several weeks ago I was so excited when she sent me a message telling me she was coming to Boston to be a guest lecturer at Bridgewater College for her talk: "Taking the First Step as an Ostomate: Deciding to Hike the 2,175 Miles of the Appalachian Trail from Springer Mountain, GA to Mount Katahdin, ME." I was so excited to reconnect and have the chance to meet up. Beth has always been someone I have greatly admired for the strength she has and her positive attitude despite all her health challenges. And she did something many of us could NEVER imagine doing, the Appalachian Trail!!

I got to spend the afternoon with Beth and her mom. We shopped along Newbury and Boylston and then lunched at a yummy Thai restaurant. It was so fun to catch up and hear of her upcoming schooling to get her DPT. Who would have thought that 9.5 years ago when we were dancing around 1st Brewer that we would meet for lunch as adults in the city where I live and talking about the amazing directions our lives have taken us.
Come again Bekira!!!
