Catching up with Life

So I have survived my first 2 weeks and am about to set sail on week number 3. Things have been going really well. Due to Easter break I have yet to have a full 5 day week so this week will be the real test.
Last week was my first few days of being on my own and actually teaching them all day. It is going really well as we are in high gear for preparing for the EOG in just a few weeks.
I remember all my student's names now and am trying to learn their learning styles and build their trust. I think they weren't quite sure what to think of me, but are quickly learning that I mean business. I was not so popular Friday afternoon when I filled the board with a slew of homework for those little lazy bums to work on this weekend. Friday was the last day of Spanish special and I am going to miss my 45 minute break on Wednesdays and Fridays.
I am loving the flexibility of teaching and though the principal made a surprise visit into my class on Wednesday, I just kept on teaching and didn't let that get to me.
I am getting to know some of the teachers better and the other students have learned my name and are saying hello to me in the hallway.
On my second day of teaching one of the kindergarteners informed me that I sound like Barbie... I wasn't aware that Barbie had a sound, but hey she could have said a lot worse to me.
Thursday we took a field trip to the Asheboro Zoo... it was rather unreal to take my own class when it felt like just yesterday I was in 1st grade and going with Miss Evans to the zoo for our field trip... man am I really a grown up? (that is an entirely different post)

On a more personal note: We are getting closer and closer to the arrival of our precious Baby K.. we are praying that wherever that baby is either in the womb or in the care of a foster mother that the Lord is keeping him/her safe and healthy. I can't wait to hold my niece or nephew in my arms sometime this summer!
Also, Mere will be home in about a month... I can't wait to throw my arms around that crazy kid and give her a big hug. I miss her like crazy and want to curl up with her on the couch and watch us some great Tom Hank/Meg Ryan filmfest as well as our old classic Sense and Sensibility. Where has all the time gone in our lives that my oldest sister is about to be a mother and one of my baby sisters is gallivanting around the world spreading the news of Jesus... Hallelujah for the faithfulness of the Lord.

Well I think my students have spread some of their delightful germs to me (guess I didn't bathe in quite enough anti-bacterial this week) so I'm feeling a little scratchy throat and some major sinus pressure so I'm gonna be a wonderful teacher and hit the hay at 9:30 :)
adios mis amigos
